seed exchange

Harold Peachey's picture

Yet another year of frustration trying to place seed exchange order.  After tens of thousands of dollars spent with seemingly no resolution to the yearly problems of ordering online I would propose that we go back to a simpler and tremenously less expensive format and just order seeds through a mail-in paper order form.

Small Lots of Seed Permits

Jeron Chamberlain's picture

Since I just went through the USDA  APHIS small lots of seed permit process I wanted to report a couple of things for those who are US citizens importing seeds from outside the US.  The very first time I applied for a permit I mailed the application in, because from the instructions on the NARGS website it sounded like the online system required a visit to a USDA office.  From what I remember mailing the application did take at least thirty days to acquire the permit, but at the time I was not in a hurry.

weather complaint

I'd like to address this to my neighbors in the country to the north of me.

Could you guys, like, not share your air with me any more?

On about the 8th of November it was in the 60s (F, say 17C) here, then it dropped down to about -12F (-24C), then it warmed up again, and yesterday it was 69F (20.5C), and tonight the low is predicted to be 15F (-9.5C).

It isn't even winter yet.

Winter Weather

Sending best wishes to all those in areas so badly affected by the strength of the winter storms. Here's hoping an improvement in conditions and repairs to broken power lines and so on are speedily achieved.

In the UK the main problem has been wind , rain and high tides so far this winter.

Here on the North East we have been luckier than most - whether or not that continues is open to discussion - until at least June, I reckon!

Hope all members are safe.

Friend or Foe ?

Visitor's picture

I thought that a thread where we could discuss those critters found on and amongst our special plants may well be useful. It is so easy today to spray and eradicate everything, that sometimes the 'good guys' suffer too from this 'across the board' extermination. Far too often our friends are mistaken for pests! If you're unsure of ID, maybe hold off for  a day, post a pic if you're unsure of the 'pest', then decide if you want it in your garden or not?

Is this a good guy or bad??
